Course Description:
Spanish II is a continuation in the study of the basic conversational and grammatical structures of the Spanish language. Students will learn to express themselves through more complex linguistic structures. A stress on mastering the present tense will be accomplished. Understanding and applying the past tenses, such as the preterit and imperfect is a major benchmark that will be a focal point in this course. This benchmark will be accomplished through speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish. Speaking ability and pronunciation skills will be reinforced through; video and audiotapes, music, singing, skits, daily class participation, and cooperative learning group work. Students will be encouraged to communicate in Spanish when possible, with an emphasis placed on building and expanding conversational skills in a variety of topics. Students will be asked to communicate clearly in speech and in writing, as outlined by the Massachusetts State Standards, for a second year language learner. Students will be assessed using the school-wide rubrics for communication; as is expected in their native language, students’ speech should demonstrate an appropriate vocabulary usage, pace, volume and tone.

3. Immersion 7. Cultural lessons
4. Individual & group assignments 8. Educational games & songs
Assignments:

10-15 vocabulary words studied nightly
-
Quizzes will be given each class
-
Reading, writing, speaking, & listening in the target language will be practiced each class
-
Tests will be given 2 to 3 times a quarter
-
Projects will be assigned for each chapter
Classroom requirements are based on Granby Jr/Sr High School's Mission Statement:

Academic Achievement
Students will:
-Studied vocabulary and grammar nightly
-Complete all written assignments
-Complete projects
-Study for quizzes and tests

Students will:
-Come to class on time
-Come to class prepared
-Do their share in cooperative learning
-Make good use of class time given to work on projects, study flash cards, grammar, etc.
Respect
Students will:
-Use appropriate language
-Show respect to everyone in the classroom
-Earn respect
-Behave in a manner that promotes learning
Grading Guidelines
40%-Tests
40%-quizzes, oral and written; compositions and projects
20%-Class discussion; and class participation
***Please note that my official extra-help sessions are on Mondays from 2:00-3:00. (Usually I'm at school Mon-Thursday until 3:00)***
